Schola Cantorum and Choir

“Let them sing songs of praise” – St. James 5:13

Welcome to the choir page at Our Lady of Mt Carmel! This is not just information about the choir and its activities, but we have music for you to use; quite literally hundreds of scores, “the treasures of the church”, as many have described it. Just click on the music category below and to the left and our music is available to download. To get to the Chants for the Church year click on “Gregorian” below, then scroll down the new page to “Liber Usualis” and then “Proper of the Time”. The music is then categorized by season.

“Be ye doers of the word and not just hearers.” These words of Our Lord should ring in every Catholic’s ears. When we participate at Mass this is one way to be doers of the word. An even greater way is to sing, either as a parish or in the choir. In comparison to the doers and hearers are the music listeners and the music makers. Music listeners are people who hear the works and recordings of others and are satisfied with that; music makers are people who sing but not just once in a while. The music makers dedicate their lives to song, even if that’s not their job. They don’t let life’s little circumstances get in the way of making music, they sing and offer it up to the glory of God. It seems pretty obvious that God wants us to be music makers, if not as a choir member then certainly as a parishioner.
